    1. Undisturbed calmness of mind is attained by cultivating friendliness toward the happy, compassion for the unhappy, delight in the virtuous, and indifference toward the wicked.

    2. Or, when a higher activity, about a sense or the object of senses appear, that causes mental steadiness.

    3. The steadiness of mind is attained by having desirelessness for its objects.

    4. The steadiness of the mind may be acquired by meditating on any desired object of one's own choice; conducive to the steadiness of consciousness.
