The Dress Code

In one of my tours to a foreign country, a very special experience happened to me.

There are many crazy ideas about the yogis, yoga teachers and followers of yoga clan. There will be a lot of assumptions about the dress and the appearance of these people.

There was another incident in my life related to this dress factor. In one of my talks this incident happened.

There are many incidents where the organizers, yoga teachers and even the participants of my events asking me about the reasons for me wearing a casual dress and not wearing the so-called conventional dress of yogis.

My guru belonged to a traditional group of teachers. But he was not dressing like the most popular and common ideas of the dress of the modern yogis. He was dressing in a simple way, in the lines of the house-holder.

Sri Shankara Bhagavadpada says, udara nimittam bahukruta vesham.

An ideal teacher will advise his or her students to wear a comfortable dress so that the students do not have any disturbance to their practice by wearing that dress, especially when they are doing asanas.
